TORONTO - Fullback Jeff Johnson, a two-time Grey Cup champion over 14 CFL seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats, announced his retirement Friday. "I could have never imagined all that I would gain from this great game," Johnson said in a statement. "I would like to thank the Toronto Argonauts organization for believing in me and giving me the opportunity of a lifetime -- it has been a dream come true. "Thank you to all the fans for your support, dedication and love that you continue to show year after year. Finally, thank you to all my family and friends who have been there from the beginning and for showering me with love and support for 14 incredible years; I love you all. Double Blue forever!" Johnson spent his first two CFL seasons with Hamilton (2000-2001) before joining the Argos in 2001. He appeared in 234 career games, including 198 with the Argos to stand fifth all-time. Johnson also appeared in 14 career playoff games with Toronto, winning Grey Cups in 2004 and 2012. "Jeff has been a consummate professional in every sense of the term," Argos general manager Jim Barker said. "His work ethic, leadership, sense of family, and enthusiasm for the game have set him apart his entire career. L.J. Collier Jersey . A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press the Steelers will part ways with the former Pro Bowler, a move that hardly serves as a surprise after fifth-year linebacker Jason Worilds agreed to accept a "transition player" tag last week. SURREY, B.C. -- Travis Lulay isnt giving up on the CFL season just yet. The B.C. Lions quarterback says he will make a decision in the next couple of weeks on whether to have surgery on his right throwing shoulder which he re-injured in Friday nights 7-5 win over the Ottawa Redblacks. If surgery isnt needed, Lulay believes he could play again this year. "Thats a possibility," Lulay told reporters Tuesday at the Lions practise facility. "We just dont know enough quite yet. "As far as options go, that is one of the options, not to have the surgery and see how it responds." If surgery is needed, that would finish Lulay for the year. "If it were to look like surgery is the best thing to do, wed decide exactly how to do it and more forward," he said. An MRI Monday confirmed the CFLs 2011 MVP had suffered a dislocated shoulder. The Lions placed Lulay on the six-game injured. Lulay underwent off-season surgery on the same shoulder, which resulted in him starting the year on the six-game injured list. He finally returned to the lineup in Week 8 against Toronto and made his first start against Ottawa. The shoulder was hurt again when Lulay ended up at the bottom of a pile while trying to recover a loose ball late in the fourth quarter of the win over Ottawa. "I knew it went right away," Lulay said. "Thats the cruel nature of our sport. "Right after the game it was a tough moment." The MRI showed the extent of the damage. "Due to the nature of the injury, the surgery which was performed on Travis shoulder last winter has essentially been undone," Dr. Bob McCormack said in a release. Lulay wasnt the only CFL quarterback injured last weekend. Darian Durant of the Saskatchewan Roughriders is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a torn tendon in his right elbow. He was hurt in Sundays win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and requires surgery. A national television audience saw Lulay being helped off the field. Immediately he began receiving a flood of best wishes on social media from players and fans across the CFL. Lulays voice quivered with emotion when discussing what that meant to him. "That was pretty cool to have the respect of your peers," he said. "That emotion has carried me over the top of the disappointments." In parts of three games this year Lulay has completed 22 of 35 passes for 194 yards. Hes also rushed for 54 yards on six carries. Kevin Glenn, the veteran quarterback B.C. acquired as an insurance policy before the season, will start when the Lions play the Blue Bombers on Saturday night aat B.dddddddddddd. Place Stadium. The Lions and Bombers are tied at the bottom of the West Division standings with 12 points each, making the game important for both teams playoff hopes. Head coach Mike Benevides said the team has confidence in Glenn, who has won five games as the Lions starting quarterback. "We understand the task at hand and we understand each other better," said Benevides. "We will find a way to get it done." Injuries resulted in Glenn taking over the starting quarterback position with the Calgary Stampeders in 2012. He ended up taking the Stampeders to the Grey Cup game. "Ive been in this situation the past two or three years," Glenn said. "It doesnt get different. "Ive always prepared as if I was going to play. Ive always put myself in the position to where I am ready if I get that chance." B.C. has struggled offensively this season. The Lions have failed to score an offensive touchdown in three games, including the last two. Glenn has completed 161 of 256 passes for 2,151 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Running back Andrew Harris, who earlier in the year was battling for the rushing lead, has managed just 54 yards in the last three games. Lulay, who turns 31 later this month, has a history of shoulder problems. The latest injury casts some doubt on his future. The six-foot-two, 216-pound native of Salem, Ore., partially dislocated his right shoulder last September in a win over Montreal. He missed the final seven regular-season games but returned to play in the Lions West Division semifinal loss to Saskatchewan. For the season he completed 224 of 347 passes for 2,841 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In November, Lulay had surgery to tighten the ligaments in the shoulder. That started a long winter of rehabilitation that spilled into the regular season. For the first several months after the operation Lulay couldnt even pick up his infant daughter or take a carton of milk out of the refrigerator. Lulays shoulder problems date back to June 2007 when he suffered a partly torn labrum playing for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europa. That resulted in surgery and rehab. In October 2009 he hurt the shoulder in a game against Winnipeg. That resulted in Casey Printers taking over as B.C.s starting quarterback. In October 2012 Lulay took a hit on the shoulder in a game against Hamilton and missed the next two games. Lulay, the father of two young children, was asked if hes considered retirement. "Not yet," he said. "Im going to make the best decision for me, for my wife and family." Hamilton County prosecutors said Irsay was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance or its metabolite in the body, which carry maximum penalties of 60 days in jail and $500 fines for each count. A probable cause affidavit said Irsay was driving under the influence of oxycodone and/or hydrocodone, both powerful painkillers. Irsay was arrested near his home at about 3 a.m. on March 16 with $29,000 in cash and bottles of prescription drugs in his vehicle. Police said Irsay denied being drunk and told an officer he had taken several prescription medications during the day. A police report said the 54-year-old billionaire was so disoriented that officers made him sit on the hood of a patrol car to keep him from falling, and that he had trouble reciting the alphabet. Police had filed four preliminary felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, charges that each carried possible sentences of six months to three years in prison. Prosecutors took weeks before deciding to file the misdemeanour charges instead. The Indianapolis law office representing Irsay, Voyles, Zahn & Paul, released a statement thanking the prosecutors office for its professionalism in handing the investigation and "for devoting the necessary care and attention to determine the facts in this matter did not warrant the filing of felony charges relative to Mr. Irsays prescription medications." Colts spokesman Avis Roper declined immediate comment. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is still reviewing the matter. "The NFLs Personal Conduct Policy applies to all league personnel and holds all of us accountable. We are reviewing the matter and will take appropriate action inn accordance with the policy," he said in an email.dddddddddddd There are few examples of the league punishing an owner like Irsay. Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand was suspended for 30 days and fined $100,000 in 2010 for violating the NFLs personal conduct policy following his guilty plea to driving while impaired. The police report said Irsay stumbled out of his SUV and failed field sobriety tests. After Irsay refused a blood draw, a judge approved a search warrant to draw his blood. Refusing the blood test means Irsays drivers license will be automatically suspended for one year. An initial hearing is scheduled for June 19. Irsay was supposed to have an initial hearing on March 25, but that hearing was postponed because he had been admitted to an out-of-state medical facility for inpatient treatment, the prosecutors office said. His family said at the time he was undergoing treatment "to help him meet his challenges head-on." Irsay acknowledged in 2002 that he had become dependent on painkillers after several years of orthopedic operations but said he had overcome the problem. Irsay resumed his duties with the Colts at the NFL draft earlier this month and earlier this week he made the unsuccessful personal pitch to his fellow owners on behalf of Indianapolis bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Irsay became the Colts owner in 1997 after the death of his father, Robert Irsay, and a lengthy legal battle with his fathers second wife. Forbes magazine has estimated Irsays net worth at $1.6 billion. He has helped build the Colts into a top NFL team over the past decade behind quarterback Peyton Manning, now with Denver, and was a key player in the drive to bring the Super Bowl to Indianapolis two years ago. He is working with some success to rebuild the team behind young quarterback Andrew Luck while coping with a divorce that follows a decade-long separation from his wife of 33 years. (SportsNetwork.com) - LeSean McCoy cant explain why the run game has yet to produce for the Philadelphia Eagles, so stop asking him. McCoy is the NFLs reigning rushing champion and will try to take his frustrations out Sunday when the St. Louis Rams pay a visit to Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles were first in rushing last season with 160.4 yards per game and are now 26th with 87.0 ypg. The tremendous dropoff is related to an unhealthy offensive line and opposing defenses keying in on McCoy, who ran for 1.607 yards last season and has only 192 in four games. McCoy may be frustrated with whats going on, but is still confident in his ability and prepares the same way. Its definitely frustrating, McCoy said Wednesday. You know what type of player you are and you want to put the numbers up. If teams do come in to try and stop you and theyre successful with it, thats another frustrating thing. But then again, I know who I am. Im still confident. I know what I can do. So it doesnt really bother me that much. Were winning games, were 3-1. At times it can be frustrating, but at the end of the day I know who I am. McCoy may try to do too much at times and make things happen with his legs like he has so often in his career. But this year its been a grind. McCoy said the Eagles have won games when the run game isnt there, and that head coach Chip Kelly will display different looks and formations on Sunday against a St. Louis defense that is 30th against the rush (155.0 ypg) and has allowed a 100-yard runner in all three games. The Eagles had 22 yards rushing in Sundays 26-21 loss at San Francisco and McCoy recorded 17 on 10 carries. A 1.7 yards per carry wont get it done at this level, but the Eagles will get a boost when starting right tackle Lane Johnson returns from a four-game suspension for violating the leagues policy on performance-enhancing substances. Johnson started all 16 games as a rookie last season. Kelly said Johnson looked good in his return to the team. He obviously worked when he was away, he was down at a workout facility in Dallas and worked out there, Kelly said Tuesday. Thats the one thing you know about Lane is that hes got a great work ethic, and so we werent concerned with him coming back out of shape or whatnot. The Eagles could have stolen a victory away from the 49ers and came up short in their opportunity down the stretch. The defense and special teams played well, registering 21 points, and Niners QB Colin Kaepernick was sacked four times. The Eagles struggled in the pass rush over a 3-0 start and may have turned the corner in putting pressure up front. Safety and first-year Eagle Malcolm Jenkins has an INT in three straight games and returned one 53 yards for a touchdown Sunday. Jenkins is getting comfortable with the new system and his teammates have noticed. Hes a very smart safety, Eagles cornerback Bradley Fletcher said. He knows a lot about football, schemes, concepts, and he puts it out on the field when hes in the game. Thats great to have, especially coming from a safety whos making calls, getting guys lined up on the outside, and just being kind of the general back there in the secondary. The Eagles have forced a takeaway in 17 straight games. Jenkins will go for another pick against rested Rams rookie quarterback Austin Davis. Davis and the Rams are coming off their bye week and the undrafted Southern Miss product was named the starting QB going forward. He beat out Shaun Hill, and starter Sam Bradford is lost for the season a second straight year with a knee injury. Its a bit of a wild ride, but at the end of the day, this teams looking for me to lead them, Davis said this week. Im up for that challenge and Im excited about it. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher also talked about the move Wednesday. I also had Austin and Shaun in my office this morning at separate times, and were going to go ahead and start Austin for the remainder of the season, Fisher stated. Its not that Shaun lost the job, its that Austin earned an opportunity to keep it. St. Louis is off to a 1-2 start and had the Dallas Cowboys on the ropes in a 34-31 loss in Week 3. The Rams blew a 21-0 lead and their 448 total yards went to waste. Davis passed for 327 yards and three scores, but threw a pair of interceptions. Four of the eight pass catchers for the Rams had 50 or more yards with Jared Cook leading the way with 75 yards on seven catches. Rams wideout Tavon Austin was limited in practice with a balky knee and has not been ruled out for Sundays game. The Rams, who are unbeaten (1-0-1) after the bye under head coach Jeff Fisher, are going against an Eagles defense that ranks near the bottom of most categories such total yards allowed (391.2), passing yards (257.5), rushing (133.8) and points (26.0). Rams running back Zac Stacy is trying to become the fourth straight player with at least 70 rushing yards against the Eagles, who gave up 218 on the ground last week and 49ers tailback Frank Gore amassed 119 yards on 24 carries with a 55-yard touchdown catch. Stacy has hit the 60-yard rushing mark in each of his last two games. He ran for 67 and posted 54 receiving yards in the loss to Dallas. Philadelphia has a good chance at keeping their six-game home winning streak in the regular season intact against the Rams, who have lost three straight and four of five games to the Eagles and havent visited the City of Brotherly Love since a 38-3 loss on Sept. 7, 2008. The Rams and Eagles are tied at 19-19-1 in the all-time series. The Eagles have outscored the Rams, 69-16, in the past two encounters. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Look for Eagles QB Nick Foles to bounce back from his rough performance against the 49ers Sunday. He passed for only 195 yards with a pair of interceptions and no touchdown passes. The last time he came up empty on TD passes was Nov. 17 of last season in a win over Washington. In his past six home games in the regular season, Foles is 6-0 with 11 TD passes to just two interceptions for a 104.7 rating. Foles, who has a myriad of weapons to choose from and may want to get tight ends Brent Celek and Zach Ertz more involved, said he needs to make some adjustments moving forward. Ive definitely tried to just take some shots, stretch them out a little bit, Foles said of missing receivers long. I need to be a little more accurate, thats what Im working on this week, working on that, and staying clean in the pocket so I can deliver the ball to our guys where they can go up and make a play, not where the ball lands in front of them. And where has wide receiver Riley Cooper been? Jeremy Maclins making highlight-reel catches and Coopers still trying to live off last seasons success, which can be attributed to the presence of DeSean Jackson. Jackson is in Washington and Copper is struggling without him. Foles was sacked five times in Week 1 before going unscathed the next two weeks. He was taken down once in San Francisco. The Rams will be trying to get to Foles early and often to create turnovers and disrupt the timing he has been working on this week. That could be too much to ask because they are last in the NFL with only one sack. The lone St. Louis sack belongs to defensive tackle Aaron Donald. The Rams have 106 sacks over the past three seasons and star defensive end Robert Quinn is still searching for No. 1 this season. He led the NFC with 19.0 sacks a year ago and had his contract extended in mid-September. Last season, the Rams had five defensive linemen with five or more sacks. Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis leads the team in stops and be sure to see him on display Sunday, especially against the run. The Rams have one of the more stingy defensive backfields in the league and are allowing the third- lowest total yards against the pass (187.3). They will try to make the Eagles one-dimensional and force them to throw. However, the Redskins had that same philosophy and Philadelphia was able to circumvent the strategy. This is a good football team, Fisher said of the Eagles. This team could be 4-0. Youre talking about a team that has five returns for touchdowns already. So they played the Niners well. And weve got our hands full defensively. Great group of special teams players. And their defense is well coached. OVERALL ANALYSIS The Eagles will show some improvement up front with the return of Johnson at right tackle alongside veteran guard Todd Herremans. Its gonna be awesome to have Lane back, Eagles LT Jason Peters said. Todd goes back to his natural position. Were still missing (Jason) Kelce and (Evan) Mathis, but those other guys are gonna step in and do better this game because youve got Lane back. It makes it solid on the inside. Center David Molk and left guard Matt Tobin are the other guys Peters was referring to. McCoy surely hopes he can find some holes to run through, but even if he is limited production-wise, Foles, Sproles, Maclin and the defense will carry the Eagles to a convincing victory over the Rams. This is what it feels like when your teams season ends prematurely. This is how we feel in Montreal, and our new Mayor, Denis Coderre, has pushed through legislation that will allow some bars to call last call at 5:45am. Bars will close at 6am. Corderre wanted David Desharnais benched or traded or lynched in November, so Im not sure why hes allowed to make laws, but either way three extra hours of drinking do not bode well for a city of broken hearts already adept at drowning its sorrows until the wee hours.Reliving the PastIn the quiet aftermath of a series lost, one can be driven to madness through contemplation and consideration of responsibility and complicity. Im not talking about the players, or management, or coaching staff. Im talking about each fan, individually, wrapped in the curious superstitions of sport; adults who believe their habits and regiments supernaturally affect those of their team. For example, during game two of the Bruins-Habs series I had a cocktail with a woman who has no interest in hockey but may have interest in me. Did my shunning of the 1st period adversely affect the balance of the Habs universe? The other day, in anticipation of seeing my mother, I very discreetly and almost unnoticeably trimmed my beard. Did I bring on some bad juju? Ive watched the last two games on CBC. Had I watched RDS, would Price be okay? Would the Habs be up two games? Would Henrik Lundqvist be mortal? Well never know…No Nos AmoursAt no time is it more apparent that the Expos are gone than right after the Habs disappoint. And this summer, the cut runs a little deeper, a little more steeped in vinegar and salt, after a weekend in April of Expos nostalgia and games at the Big O. Sure it was just the Blue Jays and Mets, but it was as close to Major League Baseball as weve seen on the Island of Montreal in a decade. The tricolore hats were everywhere, and not just on Brooklynites in town for Osheaga. Larry Walker, Marquis Grissom, Felipe Alou, and the 94 team spent the weekend. We were reminded of what once was, and for a moment gleaned hope that it could be again. But then the playoffs started, and we forgot all about it. Now on the precipice of an abrupt end to the postseason, what are we to do? Cheer for the Blue Jays? That kind of talk will get you kicked out of the bar at 4:45.ddddddddddddTouristsTheres a brief respite in the Montreal calendar in May and June. Its right after the students have left to their parents basements in Mississauga, a convoy of minivans heading west, Ikea skeletons ominously freckling the McGill ghetto, and the arrival of tourists. Its a peaceful time. A time for quiet contemplation, for being able to find a seat at Starbucks, for going through alleys looking for a new couch. But then the tourists settle in. Unwanted aliens in your favourite haunts, fratish bachelor party weekends, and F1 fans, who make Bruins fans look quaint. That late spring void is best when filled with Habs reverie, double overtimes, Boston-hate, and large crowds in early evening bars yelling at Glenn Healy. We had that for a while this spring. Not long enough.ResponsibilityEverything is forgotten during a Habs playoff run. Debts are excused. Infidelities are forgiven. Commitments are eschewed. As Montrealers we are focused on the mirth and minutiae of Les Glorieux. We live in the echoing resonance of Ginette Renos final notes. We are oblivious to all else. But, in the absence of that distraction, we are left to tend to the discard and detritus that is our lives. Have I filed my taxes? How long has that stain been on my pants? Have I paid my rent? Did Aunt Wreatha pass away? Are these evenmy pants? Was it Mothers Day recently? When the last time I showered? Did laundry? Ate a vegetable? The humbling truth of reality sets in, and it can be early August before weve trimmed our playoff beards, made amends for our indiscretions, and recovered from our revelry.Im still hopeful for a miracle. AsBarDowns Twitter feed noted, I am a glass half-full type of guy. Game three in New York could very well be where a legend is born, where a Humboldt, Saskatchewan native becomes this generations Ken Dryden, or Steve Penney, or Patrick Roy. And maybe Carey Prices knee recovers, and all of this worry, this fretting over what might have been returns to the hope of what just might be. And maybe spring stretches out a few more weeks. Until then there is only Dustin Tokarski and prayer. Or Peter Budaj. Frankly, I dont care who it is as long as they hold off summer just a little bit longer. PHILADELPHIA -- Kyle Kendrick has to wait an extra day to start another home opener. The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers enjoyed an unexpected day off Monday without having to sit around in their uniforms and wait through rain delays. A gloomy forecast forced postponement of their game 25 hours before the scheduled start. When the teams meet Tuesday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park, Kendrick (0-0) will face former Phillies pitcher Kyle Lohse (0-1). Itll be Kendricks second straight start in the home opener. "The fans are going to be excited and Im looking forward to it," he said. "Well be back home for the first time this year and hopefully we can get a win. Thats the main thing." The Phillies went 3-3 in their first six games at Texas and the Chicago Cubs. Bullpen breakdowns cost them two games against the Rangers, including closer Jonathan Papelbons eighth blown save since 2013. But the offence got off to a surprisingly strong start after a miserable spring. The Phillies are batting .276 and averaging 5.2 runs per game. After hitting just .217 with three extra-base hits and three RBIs in Florida, Chase Utley found his groove once the games started to count. He already has three doubles, two homers, six RBIs and a .458 average. Dominic Brown is hitting .381, Jimmy Rollins has six RBIs in four games and the team has seven homers. "Chase is a perfect example of why we dont worry as much as everybody else worries," general Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "When the bell rings and the lights are major league lights and the background, those guys are ready to turn on the switch." The Brewers (4-2) are coming in after a three-game sweep of the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. It could be a welcome trip to Philadelphia for Ryan Braun, who has only three singles in 20 at-bats. The 2011 NL MVP has had more success against the Phillies than any other team. He has a career average of .386 with a .430 on-base percentage, .690 slugging percentage, 14 homers and 30 RBIs in 43 games vs. Philadelphia. Braun is battling a thumb injury that also bothered him last year before he served a 65-game suspension for violations of MLBs drug agreement and labour contract. Braun heard boos in Boston in his first road game since returning and surely will hear some more in Philadelphia. Lohse takes the mound for the Brewers after losing to Atlanta in his first start. The right-hander pitched for the Phillies in the second half of 2007, helping them begin their streak of five NL East titles. "That was the year we caught the Mets, when we were down seven games with 17 to play," Lohse told MLB.com. LeBron James and Chris Bosh didnt need any more. Williams scored 11 points in 10 minutes, Alan Anderson scored 17 points, and the Brooklyn Nets finished the exhibition season with a 108-87 win over the Miami Heat on Friday night.WASHINGTON -- For the second time in three days, Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 39th goal late against the Detroit Red Wings. This one wont be taken away. Ovechkins one-timer from the left circle on a power play 2:37 into overtime gave the Capitals a 6-5 win Sunday over the Red Wings, earning a split of a home-and-home set and tightening up things even more in the bottlenecked bottom half of the Eastern Conference. Ovechkin was originally credited with the goal that tied the score with 7 seconds left in regulation on Friday in Detroit -- a game the Red Wings eventually won in a shootout. The NHL has since reviewed the play and decided it instead belongs to Joel Ward on a deflection. Ward kept it up Sunday, getting two goals and an assist as he again benefited from the extra attention paid to Ovechkin, particularly on the power play. In overtime, however, the power play is 4-on-3, and that left plenty of space for the Russian Olympian to drive home the game-winner after Brendan Smith was sent off for tripping. "I was pretty much open," Ovechkin said. "Sometimes its kind of boring when they put one guy close to you and youre basically out of the game, but Wardo and everybody do a great job." Jason Chimera, John Carlson and Troy Brouwer also scored for the Capitals, who got a touchdowns worth of goals in their fifth consecutive Super Bowl Sunday home matinee. Michal Neuvirth made 25 saves. The Capitals and Red Wings are bunched in a six-team pack in which two points separate eighth place from 13th place in the East. Washington had lost seven of nine and three in a row at home. "Itll go right down to the end," Washington coach Adam Oates said. "Thats why youve got to get as healthy as you can.dddddddddddd Every point matters. Hopefully your wave will come, and itll come at the right time." Ward has 17 goals, matching his career high for a season and making him the unlikely No. 2 scorer on the Capitals. "I definitely know Ive got a role on this team, and thats obviously to try to chip in as much as I can," Ward said. "But by no means Im not trying to be no superhero or Batman. Im just trying to help the team win." Gustav Nyquist had his first career hat trick and added an assist, and Tomas Tatar and Justin Abdelkader also scored for the Red Wings, who at least managed to end a long scoring drought away from home. Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots. Nyquists goal at 11:40 of the first period ended the Detroits road scoreless run at 194:14. The Red Wings had been shut out for three consecutive away games, a streak equaled in franchise history only by the 1927-28 Detroit Cougars. It was one of those games where a trip to the concession stand was a risky proposition. The first period included three power-play goals in just 53 seconds of man-advantage time. In the second period, Tatar and Ward scored 19 seconds apart. Nyquist finished his hat trick just 42 seconds into the third period. "It was an old-fashioned pond hockey game out there," Howard said. "Every once in a while those games happen. The only thing weve got to take out of this is we found a way to get a point, and a lot of guys played well." Notes: Capitals D Mike Green missed his second consecutive game. He has been evaluated for concussion-like symptoms since getting hurt against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday. ... The ongoing funk on penalty kill and an unusually quiet night on home ice for the power play divided the Leafs from the Bruins at the ACC in a rare Sunday night affair. Its been quite a run of late for Canadian rugby international Hubert Buydens.Last Friday in New Zealand, the 32-year-old prop from Saskatoon helped the Manawatu Tubos earn promotion with a 32-24 win over Hawkes Bay in the NPC Championship final. On Sunday, Buydens will captain a Canada XV against an RFU Championship XV in Worcester, England. The game against an all-star squad from Englands second-tier league is the first of four for Canada on its November tour of Europe.Canadian coach Kieran Crowleys squad will be reinforced for the remaining games on the tour, which fall within the International Rugby Boards Test window unlike Sundays contest. Canada, ranked 17th in the world, will meet No. 22 Namibia in Colwyn Bay, Wales, on Nov. 7, No. 9 Samoa in Vannes, France, on Nov. 14, and No. 16 Romania in Bucharest on Nov. 22.Samoa, Namibia and Romania will join Canada at next years World Cup, with Canada and Romania both featuring in Pool D, alongside France, Ireland and Italy.Buydens has been named captain for the entire tour. Skipper Tyler Ardron, who plays for the Ospreys in Wales, is recovering from an injury and will be joining the team later in the tour.Buydens also captained Canada in a 52-8 win over Portugal last November. It was a bit of a surprise when they told me I was going to be captaining, he said of this tour. But its always a great honour. Ill try and do my best. The Canada tour has reunited Buydens, a loosehead prop, with Jason Marshall, a 29-year-old tighthead prop from North Vancouver.Amazingly the two Canucks found themselves facing off in the New Zealand final, with Marshall starting for Hawkes Bay.The two props, who both go under the nickname Moose in New Zealand, came to rugby from a football background. Hes taking a bit of guff from the boys that he was on the losing end of that one.Despite a gruelling campaign in New Zealand, Buydens says his body is feeling good.My body came through A-OK, he said. Everything that should hurt or normally does hurt does hurt and everything that shouldnt doesnt, so its all good that way.Buydens says he will have to miss out on Manawatu next year given preparations for the World Cup, which runs Sept. 18 to Oct. 31 in England and Wales. It is a little disappointing that way but definitely playing for Canada is the priority, he said.Buydens expects to return to Saskatoon after the tour and spend Christmas at home. He will then look to play overseas or, barring that, settle in Victoria.Buydens enjoyed his second season in New Zealand, living in Palmerston North where rugby players do not go unnoticed. Its a beautiful place, he said. Everyone knows who you are ... people stop you in the street, talk to you about rugby , how youre doing and how the teams doing. At six foot three and 275 pounds with a healthy beard — he was one of Canadas famed beardos at the last World Cup — Buydens is hard to miss.I stick out a little bit, yeah, he said.Canada is looking to step it up on tour after going 0-3 in June against Japan, Scotland and the U.S. A domestic Canada A side also disappointed in finishing third at the Americas Rugby Championship earlier this month.Worcester Warriors lock James Percival will captain the RFU Championship side.A lot of the Canadian boys play in that league so it will be good to measure ourselves against them and hopefully get one up on them, Buydens said.———Follow @NeilMDavidson on Twitter. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A Buffalo Bills prospective ownership group that includes rocker Jon Bon Jovi has conducted a feasibility study into buying the NFL franchise and building a stadium in Toronto, a person close to the situation said. The study identified at least three potential stadium sites, two in Toronto, including one on the waterfront, and another in the suburb of Mississauga, the person told The Associated Press on Thursday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because Bon Jovi and his partners, Larry Tanenbaum and the Rogers family, have not publicly revealed details of their plans to purchase the team. Andy Bergmann, responsible for overseeing the Bon Jovi groups stadium plans, confirmed Thursday in an email to the AP that his company has conducted stadium studies, "but nothing related to any specific site." "We have undertaken engineering and design studies," wrote Bergmann, co-founder of Toronto-based Wessex Capital Partners, a growth equity investment firm that specializes in architecture, design and engineering services. "All of our work has been about a generic site and whether it was more rural or urban. We are aware of potential sites in the western NY and southern Ontario region, and are in fact meeting with two Buffalo area developers next week. "No feasibility studies have been undertaken on any site to date." Tanenbaum is chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which controls the NBAs Raptors and NHLs Maple Leafs. The Rogers family includes Edward Rogers, deputy chairman of Rogers Communications, the Toronto-based communications giant. The Bills are being sold following the death of Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson in March. Under terms of the teams lease with the state and county, the Bills -- including Wilsons estate -- are not allowed to negotiate with anyone, who to their knowledge, has an intention of relocating the team before the end of the 2022 season, when the lease ends. The feasibility study was commissioned about 18 months ago and overseen by an investment bank, the person said, adding that one of the stadium construction costs was between $800 million and $900 million. The Bon Jovi group has not said they would relocate the team, but Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz told the AP on Wednesday that he has no doubt the groups intentions are to move the Bills to Toronto. "It is my personal opinion that any bid associated with the Toronto group has a long-term interest in moving the team to Toronto," Poloncarz said, while attending Bills training camp in suburban Rochester, New York. Thursday night, New York Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy posted several notes on his Twitter account and specifically mentioned Bon Jovi in sending a warning to any prospective ownership groups that might have plans of relocating the Bills. "Note to JBJ: You will lose fans/all of WNY- forever. Not worth it," Duffy said, referring to Bon Jovi and western New York. "Note to prospective owners: BUFFALO Bills. Dont pick this fight." Duffy then referred to a clause in the Bills lease that provides the state and county an opportunity to seek court action to block negotiations between the team and any party that has expressed an intention of relocating the team during the lease. If the legal action failed and the Bills relocated during the lease, the state and county would be open to seeking a $400 million penalty as compensation. "It would be a public relations disaster for any new owner to consider a move- and the 400m hit," Duffy wrote in a post that included a link to the AP story. The Bills most recently were valued by Forbes at $870 million. They are projected to be sold for at least $1 billion, partly because NFL teams rarely go on the market. John Vrooman, a Vanderbilt professor who specializes in sports economics, said feasibility studies are standard practice among prospective ownership groups and there should be no immediate cause for alarm. He said such studies evaluate expected cash flows and best- and worst-case risk factors based on location. Vrooman projected the Bills to be valued at between $950 million and $1 billion in western New York, and about $1.5 billion if they moved to Toronto and even more in Los Angeles. The Toronto group is represented by Goldman Sachs, and is one of at least 10 groups to have submitted a nondisclosure agreement form to Morgan Stanley, the banking firm overseeing the Bills sale on behalf of Wilsons estate. Among those also listed as returning their forms are Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula and New York City real estate mogul Donald Trump. The next step comes Tuesday. Thats when prospective bidders must submit to Morgan Stanley whats called "a first letter of indication," which includes their initial and non-binding bid to purchase the team, said a person familiar with the sale process. The person spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the sale process is private. The person said the firm will review the bids and determine which prospective groups will be eligible to proceed to the next stage of bidding. The list of remaining groups allowed to move forward is anticipated to be identified by the end of next week, the person said. Those groups will then be granted further access to the Bills financial date to better determine their bid. Its possible that a prospective owner could be identified by as early as late August, and be presented to NFL owners for approval during league meetings in early October. The Wizards hope they didnt lose something much more important than just one game. Love had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and J.J. Barea scored 17 points off the bench to help the Timberwolves beat Washington 120-98 on Friday night. Ricky Rubio had 11 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in 26 minutes, and Nikola Pekovic added 18 points and 10 boards for the Timberwolves. Minnesota turned the ball over only five times and got 44 points from its long-struggling reserves. "Its no secret we need more production from our bench," Love said. "That really helps out some of the starters, especially when every night isnt going to be great for all of our guys, one through five." John Wall had 26 points and seven assists for the Wizards, who missed a chance to win their fourth straight road game for the first time since March 2008. Nene added 13 points and five rebounds, but Bradley Beal had to be helped off the floor in the fourth quarter with a left leg injury. Beal scored 14 points in 26 minutes, but got tangled up on a screen by Wolves forward Luc Mbah a Moute with 4:25 to go. Beal was knocked to the ground and couldnt put any pressure on his left leg as Jan Vesely and Trevor Ariza helped him to the locker room. "With the knee injuries going on this year in the NBA, you just hope (Beals) isnt one of those ones that (is) devastating," Wall said. Preliminary X-rays were negative on Beals left knee and he will have an MRI on Saturday. "I was just trying to really get up and I really couldnt get up," Beal said. "Was hoping it wasnt anything too serious or too crazy. I mean, I was able to put a little weight on it afterwards. Just have to see with the MRI tomorrow." Beal missed nine games this season with a stress fracture in his right leg, and the Wizards count on his scoring as part of their dynamic young backcourt. Barea shoot 8 of 10 and Alexey Shved scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to give the Wolves some much-needed balance between their starters and bench.dddddddddddd The Timberwolves slogged through a brutal opening two months, weathering injuries to Chase Budinger and Ronny Turiaf and the third-toughest schedule in the NBA to post a 13-15 record. It was underwhelming considering the high hopes they started the season with, but not wholly unexpected given the schedule. Now is the time they have to make a move if they want to be a factor in the Western Conference playoff race. They play six of the next eight at home and face five teams that are currently under .500. The Wolves got off to an awful start Friday, shooting 28 per cent in the first quarter. But they got to the free throw line 10 times to stay close, then made their move in the second quarter with 39 points. "It makes things a lot easier," coach Rick Adelman said of his second-team backcourt. "I like the way they played at both ends of the court. Weve got to get something going when those guys come in." The Wizards, meanwhile, were looking to end a four-game road swing with a statement. They beat the Knicks, Nets and Celtics to start the trip, then had five days off before facing the Timberwolves, and coach Randy Wittman wanted to see his young team build on the steps he believed they took in those victories. Wall scored 22 points in the first half, but just four in the second as the Wizards faded. The Wolves dictated play for most of the night, shooting 38 free throws to just 17 for Washington and outrebounding the Wizards 44-35, including 14-9 on the offensive end. "They were tougher than we were," Wittman said. "They pushed us around. We had no resistance. So weve got to put this game behind us but learn from it." NOTES: Former Timberwolves F Martell Webster scored 11 points for the Wizards. ... Wizards F Kevin Seraphin missed the game with a sore right knee. ... RIFUGIO PANAROTTA, Italy -- Julian Arredondo claimed the biggest win of his career with a solo victory on the 18th stage of the Giro dItalia on Thursday, while Nairo Quintana retained the overall leaders pink jersey as the race returned to the mountains. The 25-year-old Arredondo had been part of a breakaway and made his move with just under four kilometres (2.5 miles) remaining to ride alone up the summit finish to Rifugio Panarotta. The Colombian had time to raise one arm into the air as he crossed the finish line, 17 seconds ahead of Fabio Duarte. Philip Deignan was 20 seconds further back at the end of the 171K (106-mile) leg from Belluno. "Its a win that Ive really searched for," Arredondo said. "I said it from the start, Im in this Giro to win at least one stage, and its from the start that I have been trying. "Until today, I managed three second places and two third places, I was only missing a win and we got that today. Weve tried so much and at the end we managed it. So tonight well celebrate." Quintana remained 1:41 ahead of fellow Colombian Rigoberto Uran, with Pierre Rolland moving into third place as former race leader Cadel Evans slipped to ninth. Rolland is 3:29 behind Quintana, two seconds ahead of Fabio Aru and Rafal Majka. "Today was a calm climb, but there were several attacks, I managed to control all of them which concerned my position," Quintana said. "Each cyclist should worry about their own race. The team worked very well. "I am very happy with how things are going, there is a good atmosphere, there is joy in the team. Also the Italians are cheering me on, they are supporting me during the race, I am very happy with the warmth that we are feeling on the Giro route." Victorias Ryder Hesjedal, the 2012 Giro champion, moved up two spots to seventh overall after finishing 16th in Thursdays stage. He is 4:32 behind Quintana. Svein Tuft of Langley, B.C., is in 155th spot after finishing 142nd in Thursdays stage. A group of 11 cyclists escaped on the first categorized climb of the day, up San Pellegrino, and they managed to open up an advantage of 1:50 on the approach to the steepest part of the climb, which had gradients of 15 per cent. Arredondo, who currently leads the King of the Mountains standings, attacked three kilometres (two miles) from the summit to pick up maximum points. Deignan was just behind Arredondo, with Cataldo 40 seconds slower, but the breakaway was back together on the descent and three more riders joined it from the peloton. The peloton hit the top of San Pellegrino four minutes behind Arredondo and the gap grew to twice that, with the favourites opting to conserve their energy. The leaders maintained a significant advantage on the second climb -- the Passo del Redebus -- and had a 7:27 gap on the final climb of the day. Thomas De Gendt attacked at the foot of the ascent, with 16 kilometres (10 miles) remaining, but the Belgian was caught and passed by Arredondo, Duarte and Deignan with six kilometres (3.7 miles) to go. Back in the overall contenders group, Rolland made his move with just over two kilometres (1.24 mile) remaining to move into a podium position, while Aru also gained time on Quintana with a final surge to the line. On the day after Billy Horschel posted his 12th straight round in the 60s, won his second straight tournament against a world-class field and picked up an additional $10 million bonus as the FedEx Cup champion, Watson was kicking back in his seat at a Kansas City Royals game.FRISCO, Texas - Fabian Castillo, Je-Vaughn Watson and Michel scored in a 15-minute span of the second half Saturday night to keep FC Dallas unbeaten with a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA. Dallas (2-0-1) sits atop the Western Conference with an MLS-best seven points. Castillo opened the scoring in the 71st minute off a Mauro Diaz set piece, and Watson outran defender Tony Lochhead on a long ball and then juked goalkeeper Ian Kennedy for the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute. "We have a good team," Watson said. "The guys are running really hard. To get three goals so fast was like a reward because we had them on the back foot from the get-go of the game. I think the guys came out in the second half and decided we were going to go for the kill." Chivas forward Erick Torres grabbed his third goal of the season in the 81st minute to put the pressure back on the hosts, but Michel, a second-half substitute, slotted in a low, left-footed free kick in the 86th and Chivas (1-1-1) lost for the first time this season. Each team had 10 shots, but Dallas had nearly 60 per cent of the possession. "When you make those mistakes on set pieces and concentration, you dont deserve (points)," Chivas coach Wilmer Cabrera said. "You have to get punished in order for us to improve because weve been working — set pieces — weve been working on that, and today we lost concentration and then we got punished.dddddddddddd" Dallas midfielder Andrew Jacobson left the game in the 67th minute with what coach Oscar Pareja said was an "extreme" left ankle injury. Jacobson was on crutches after the game in the Dallas locker room. Jacobson, who came on in the 11th minute after Andrew Moffat tweaked a muscle in his left leg, hurt his ankle going for the ball and getting tangled with a Chivas player near midfield. Chivas Oswaldo Minda was replaced in first-half stoppage time with a right-leg injury that will be evaluated when the team gets home. Castillos strike came from a set piece that Diaz snapped into the box from 36 yards out. Veteran Honduran midfielder Hendry Thomas received the ball and headed it toward Castillo about 6 yards out, and Castillo swept it off Kennedys outstretched hand for the opener. Kennedy kept Chivas in the game in the first half when he saved a 30th-minute, point-blank header from Blas Perez, pushing the shot off the line to keep the game square. Both teams then started fouling more aggressively in the midfield and four yellow cards were shown in the final 15 minutes of the half, including three to Chivas players. The visitors picked up two more yellow cards in the second half, and Thomas earned an ejection during stoppage time. PINEHURST, N.C. -- Now that hes got that pesky major out of the way, Justin Rose is learning to savour the quest for his next big title. Hes not nearly as optimistic about Englands chances in the World Cup. Rose is the reigning champion heading into the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, a player who is certainly more at ease with his place in golf now that hes got one of those prestigious titles on his resume. "In the last few months, I sort of realized what I have achieved and its time to embrace it, enjoy it, and let that be the strength for me to go on and win more," Rose said Tuesday. Of course, theres another big sporting event beginning this week, one that will certainly have the attention of Rose and his fellow English players. Their soccer-mad nation has a huge opening match in the World Cup against Italy on Saturday, the soccer game scheduled to begin in Brazil about the time the third round of the Open is wrapping up in North Carolina. Reflecting the mood of his homeland, Rose is not very hopeful. Englands only World Cup title came in 1966 and expectations are low for this team, a youthful squad playing in one of the most difficult groups. "I would say theres probably more chance of one of us winning the major than England winning the World Cup," said Rose, among 11 English players in the Pinehurst field. "Sad to say." Roses primary focus will be on his bid to become the first repeat U.S. Open champion in a quarter-century. Last years triumph at Merion had been in the making for nearly that long, ever since Rose finished fourth as an 18-year-old amateur at the 1998 British Open. He spent the next 15 years trying to finish the job, chasing a major title that seemed increasingly elusive as the close calls began to pile up, the weight of expectations becoming almost too much to bear. Then, just when it seemed he might have a lifetime membership in the "Best Players Never To Win A Major" club, Rose won a duel with Phil Mickelson at the venerable club outside Philadelphia, clinching the title with a 4-iron into the demanding 18th hole that gave him the par he needed to hold off Lefty. "I havent been one of those guys who said, OK, well, Im going to win X amount of majors in my career," Rose said. "I really want to treat this major that Ive won now as a gift and let it give me the ability to sort of free-wheel for the rest of my career -- play free, play loose, just go after it. Ive really got no pressure on me from that perspective anymore." Not surprisingly, the U.S. Golf Association paired Rose and Mickelson in the first two rounds. Both hope theyll still be playing together in the final group on Sunday. "I enjoy playing golf with Phil," Rose said. "I enjoy the spirit in which he plays the games, how free he is out there. Hes got a great temperament for the game. Nothing seems to faze him. Thats something a lot of players can look up to him for." Curtis Strange, the last player to win consecutive Opens in 1988 and 89, is pulling for Rose to join the exclusive club. "If Justin would happen to do it this year, that would be the first phone call," Strange said. "That would be fantastic." Rose missed the cut in his last tournament, the Memorial, though he thinks that might turn out to be a good break because it gave him more time to get familiar with Pinehurst. Before that stumble, he had ripped off three straight top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a tie for fourth against a loaded field at The Players Championship. His biggest challenge this week might be keeping his mind on golf. During the 2010 World Cup, Rose held a three-shot lead going to the final round of the Travelers Championship. That morning, he watched Englands title hopes fade away with a 4-1 loss to Germany. Then he went out and shot a 75, finishing three shots behind winner Bubba Watson. "I never really calmed down," Rose recalled. "So maybe Ill be a little bit more careful about my emotions watching the football." After all, hes probably Englands best hope for a championship. Kevin King Jersey . No surprise there. Kershaw, who also earned the title after throwing his first career no-hitter in June, had a 1. Lance Kendricks Jersey . Andrew Luck couldnt believe his ears. Colts fans couldnt believe the scoreboard, and the Kansas City Chiefs couldnt believe their incredibly bad luck. http://www.officialgreenbaypackersfootba...jersey-womens.J. -- While Martin Brodeur wasnt willing to say he stole one for the New Jersey Devils against the Columbus Blue Jackets, almost everyone else was. Muhammad Wilkerson Jersey . - The Baltimore Ravens and tight end Dennis Pitta reached agreement on a five-year contract Friday. Jake Ryan Jersey . DeGrom outpitched Jake Peavy in a tantalizing hitless duel that carried into the seventh inning Saturday night before the New York Mets broke loose and beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2.FIVE QUICK HOOPS THOUGHTS 1. LEBRON JAMES (Heat): Totally agree with his stance to take a little family vacation and get away from the noise and reflect on what his next step should be in his career. Also allows Heat president Pat Riley to assess his roster and the prospects for improving his club. Im sure the two will have another in-depth conversation when he returns to set the stage for the next Decision. As we all know, too often were so busy that we dont take enough time to truly size up where were at in our lives and careers and get swept up in the busy nature of our daily existence. James has lots to think about. Five Finals appearances with the Cavs and Heat and two NBA titles. Not a bad run so far. The next step will be a huge one to say the least. 2. SAM MITCHELL (TWolves): Hired as an assistant coach by his longtime coach when he played there, Flip Saunders. Great move by Saunders. Love this hire for their team. Sam will have his back and do a terrific job for him. Sidney Lowe is another top notch hire for Saunders. Flip is a terrific coach, yet isnt the most domineering personality and needs strong assistants to "put out fires" on occasion. Mitchell and Lowe are excellent and both have head coaching experience, which really helps. Obviously, mixed emotions on my part - had a lot of fun working with Sam the past few years at TSN and in the years he was the Raptors head coach. Will miss him yet Im thrilled for him - hes an outstanding coach and leader and Im happy for his sake that hes back where he wants to be - on the sidelines. 3. KAWHI LEONARD (Spurs): MVP of the NBA Finals getting lots of attention in the past few days and deservedly so. Hess got an outstanding future ahead of him and by all accounts is a big time worker who is very coachable.dddddddddddd Those are wonderful traits to have. No surprise coming from a Spur. They do a really nice job sizing up guys and their character. Hes in the right environment to grow considerably as a player in the years to come. Moments like these usually cause a player to take that next step and give them a true sense of what they can accomplish. Sometimes as a coach, you see it in them and they dont. I think he realizes now what he can/cant do and will develop further. Id sure love to have his future. 4. LIONEL HOLLINS: Only the Cavs and Lakers still have head coaching openings and well see if hes lucky enough to get one of them. If not, there are rumours that folks would like him to serve as an assistant coach. Im sure this is a tough time for him after doing such a great job in Memphis to still not be able to land a head coaching job. Very humbling business for such a proud man to deal with this. Hell get through it. I have no doubt that somewhere down the road a very smart GM will give him another chance that he both deserves and will thrive in. 5. NBA DRAFT and FREE AGENCY: I laugh so much this time of year with all of the lies and misinformation that both agents and teams put out there to steer folks in the wrong direction. Id love for someone to track what ends up being fact and fiction in the next 15-17 days. I assure you most of what we hear and read ends up being planted nonsense and other times its some media members thoughts and opinions that end up taking on a life of its own and becoming fact until it ends up being pure speculation. In his first major interview since joining Manchester United, Anthony Martial insists he does get angry on the pitch despite his mellow persona, and says he is a striker first and foremost. Martials £36m transfer from Monaco to United in the summer was a shock to many, but the Frenchman burst on the scene with four goals in his first four games. The 20-year-old has remained cool on the pitch despite runs without a goal as Uniteds season stuttered in places, but Martial insists he can get angry when necessary. Martial has six goals in the Premier League for United Asked by Sky Sports Geoff Shreeves if people misinterpret his character due to his body language on the pitch, Martial said: I have always been that way, and peoples opinions will not change it, but one must know that when I fail to score a goal I do get angry with myself.I have always been like that and I have been told that quite a lot. Its true that everything just went very quick [when he signed for United], but I kept a cool head and focused on playing football. When Shreeves met Sterling and Martial Geoff Shreeves gives us the insight into his interviews with Anthony Martial and Raheem Sterling I have worked hard for it and today I am reaping the reward.Manager Louis van Gaal has irked some Manchester United supporters by fielding Martial on the left flank for much of the campaign. The Frenchman insists his mellow persona does not always stick He has six goals in the Premier League, four of which have come from starting on the wide positions, and while Martial insists he is a striker before anything else, he is happy to play wherever the Dutchman wants him.Foremost I am a striker, it doesnt bother me at all which position I play, when I am on the pitch I just focus on helping the team thats all. I just want to help the team, and when I score I am happier, I am a striker and thats how it goes.Martial knows a thing or two about hefty price tags, having moved from Lyon to Monaco for £5m at the age of just 17. His move to the Premier League carried more pressure, but the French international says he has relished the challenge in the division, and has nothing but praise for its physicality and competitiveness. Martials £36m transfer from Monaco to United in the summer was a shock to many The Premier League is more physically demanding than Ligue 1. I love English football, its the best in the world in my opinion, and I hope to stay here for many years to come. Its true that the atmosphere here is quite different from the one in France, people live and breathe football here, and thats what I like, every footballer wants to play in the Premier League. Is Martial better out wide? Louis van Gaal has been criticised for using Anthony Martial wide, but what do the stats tell us? In France its easy to know which team is going to win the game, where as in England anywhere you play, you know its going to be difficult.I think it made me realise how physically strong I am, I wasnt aware of it while playing for Monaco, as I wasnt playing consistently. I think the manager believes in me and I make sure I look after myself as well as my diet in order to be fit for games. United go to rivals Manchester City on Super Sunday looking to go to within a point of Manuel Pellegrinis side in the race for the top four. The Champions League places looked unlikely for Van Gaals side just weeks ago, but Manchester Citys drop in form has given them a lifeline with just under a quarter of the season remaining. Manchester United striker Anthony Martial responds to comparisons likening him to Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry Its going to be an important game for us, and we need to win it in order to go up in the top of the table, its up to us now to make it happen by winning. There are still a few games left, if we win that game it will enables us to get to the top four.See the extended Geoff Shreeves interviews with Martial and Raheem Sterling on Super Sunday ahead of Manchester City v Manchester United on Sky Sports 1 HD from 3.30pm. The result was a game-winning, power-play goal. Chiasson snapped a third-period tie and lifted the Dallas Stars to a 3-2 victory on Monday night. Justin Faulk Jersey . -- With the Memphis Grizzlies struggling to find their offensive rhythm, O.TORONTO -- J.A. Happ has been saying the word "frustrating" a lot more often than hed like. Over his last three starts, the Blue Jays left-hander has lasted just 14 innings, giving up 14 total runs to shoulder the loss in each of those games, including Sundays 5-0 defeat against the Kansas City Royals. "You guys are probably sick of me saying this, its frustrating," Happ said. "Its frustrating for everybody." Happ (3-5) pitched only four innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk. He also struck out three. Kansas City (70-66) inflicted most of its damage on Happ and the Blue Jays (62-75) in the third inning, when the team sent nine men to the plate and capitalized on a costly error that ultimately led to four runs. Jose Reyes was called for obstruction when he bumped into Jarrod Dyson, who was caught in a rundown between second and third base. Brett Lawrie of Langley, B.C., appeared to have tagged the runner but the obstruction call put Dyson at third. He would score on a single from the next batter, Alex Gordon. And then the floodgates opened. The Royals added another run with an RBI from former Blue Jay Emilio Bonifacio, and Eric Hosmer drove in two more to make it 5-0 before Happ could record a single out. "I dont know what to say about that (obstruction call) because I dont know the exact ruling on it." Happ said. "I do know he wasnt even looking at Jose and he actually took a step back into Jose. I know he has a right to create his own baseline but he had no clue Jose was even there. "It changes that inning, definitely, but at the same time, Im trying to minimize damage and I felt like I wasnt making good pitches to lead off that inning." Blue Jays manager John Gibbons raced onto the field to argue the obstruction call to no avail, and after the game, Reyes took ownership of the costly play. "I just tried to get the ball from Lawrie and in that situation, we got contact and Im not allowed to do that," the Blue Jays shortstop said. "After that, thats when they scored the runs. Its a tough day. I didnt mean to do that, but I guess everything happened so quickly in the game. Hopefully that doesnt happen again." Gibbons said he wasnt sure if the obstruction call affected Happ mentally, but he couldnt downplay the impact it had on the inning. "I dont know, I mean it just opened everything up -- youre first and third with no outs," the Toronto manager said. "When they get those guys on, I mean (Happ) is slow to the plate, hes a big lumbering guy. Its tough to stop, so if you get guys on there they can run you out of the ball park." While Happ struggled, his Kansas City counterpart shined. James Shields (10-8) dominated through seven scooreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out nine.dddddddddddd. He retired the first 11 batters he faced before giving up a hit to Edwin Encarnacion. Shields, who was traded from the Tampa Bay Rays to Kansas City in December, is now 12-6 against his former division rival. "Shields is good," said Gibbons. "They get a lead like that, youre probably not going to get to him too often. I think hes proven that against this ball club for years." Kansas City manager Ned Yost was happy his starter could salvage the finale of the three-game series after two close losses, including a late comeback victory for the Blue Jays on Saturday. "We had James Shields on the mound, which couldnt have been a better answer to what happened yesterday," Yost said. "It just seems like hes getting stronger and stronger as the year goes on ... its what he does everyday. He gets ahead with his fastball and then uses an outstanding change-up to put hitters away." Toronto had its three-game winning streak come to an end. The Blue Jays best chance to score came in the fifth inning when Rajai Davis hit a one-out triple. But Shields struck out Anthony Gose on three pitches, and got Kevin Pillar swinging to end the threat. Toronto relievers Chad Jenkins and Neil Wagner combined for four scoreless frames and Dustin McGowan -- who was activated earlier in the day after rehabbing a strained oblique for the past month -- worked the ninth. Hosmer had two hits and drove in three runs and Dyson also racked up a pair of singles. Bonifacio had two hits and scored twice, and stole two bases to bring his tally to a perfect 11 for 11 in steals with Kansas City. The Royals opened the scoring with a Hosmer RBI groundout that scored Bonifacio, who was walked by Happ, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher J.P. Arencibia. Blue Jays rookie Ryan Goins eight-game hitting streak was snapped. He tied Jesse Barfields team record for the longest hitting streak to begin a career on Saturday. Though Torontos three-game set with the Royals ended with a bitter loss, Reyes was able to find a positive. "Were happy to come up with the series," he said, flashing a half-smile. "Every time we win a series, we take that." NOTES: Reliever Steve Delabar was also activated prior to the game after spending nearly a month on the disabled list with right-shoulder inflammation. ... The Blue Jays won the season series over the Royals 4-2. ... Attendance was 22,961 ... The Blue Jays travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks for a three-game set beginning Monday afternoon. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A humbled and emotional Michael Jordan fought back tears, feeling vindicated after years of criticism, after being named the Charlotte Business Journals Business Person of the Year. The Charlotte Hornets owner said during a nine-minute acceptance speech Tuesday night posted on Sports Business Daily website, that while hes received many awards as a player, this one was different.Ive been criticized in a lot of different areas from a business standpoint, but I take pride in the ideas and concepts and views that come out of this organization to build the type of basketball program... that the city of Charlotte can be proud of, Jordan said as he began tearing up.Jordan won six NBA titles as a player, but his front-office leadership abilities had been questioned — including his decision to take Kwame Brown with the No. 1 pick while an executive with the Washington Wizards. But Jordan has repeatedly said he is committed to turning the Hornets around and members of his team echoed his sentiments on Wednesday.Charlotte president and COO Fred Whitfield said Wednesday that Jordan was genuinely honoured and humbled by the award.Whitfield said Jordan has listened to fans, including changing the teams name back to the Hornets upon their request. The franchise had been known as the Bobcats. He is so proud to be building something in his home state, Whitfield said. So to be recognized with such a prestigious award for his business accomplishments was really, really special to him.Jordans long-time business manager Estee Portnoy was in attendance at the ceremony, and called the speech genuine and beautiful in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday.Jordan, a 14-time NBA All-Star who took over as the Hornets majority owner in 2010, said he plans on winning multiple championships with the franchise. For all of the people that think that Im in this for the short term, you better pull your socks up and just hang around — because my promise to this organization and this community is to bring a winner, Jordan said.Jordan said when he joined the Hornets as a minority owner he never anticipated taking over as majority owner, but rather was interested in helping bring a winning franchise back to his home state. But he said when Bob Johnson decided to sell the franchise, it felt like karma that allowed him the opportunity own a team in North Carolina.I left home. I came back home. And I plan on staying home, Jordan said.Jordan, who grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina, talked at length how much of his family still lives in the state. And he said hes still driven to win.Me personally I could ride off into the sunset and never worry about a thing, Jordan said. But my pride brought me back to North Carolina for whatever reason.Jordan, who won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, went on to say a lot of my credits from a basketball standpoint are going to be attributed to Chicago. But Im from North Carolina.Jordan also thanked his employees and his family for their input on his business decisions.I take input from all sources of this community be it from my family or be it from business leaders, be it from people walking in the streets, Jordan said. And that gives me a sense of my pride in my connection to the community. I dont take that for granted. I take it with a lot of pride and a lot of respect. The Hornets made the playoffs last year but were swept in the post-season by the Miami Heat. They are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference standings this season. We still have a long ways to go as an organization, Jordan said. We are just scratching the surface. Custom Oakland Raiders Jerseys . The United States won the Eisenhower Trophy for the record 15th time in the biennial event, successfully defending its 2012 title in Turkey. DeChambeau hit a 110-yard wedge shot to 9 feet to set up his birdie on the par-4 18th. I knew where we stood when I was on the 18th tee box and I knew that I needed a birdie on the last, DeChambeau said. I striped my drive and hit a wedge in there and nailed that nine-footer. I said that I needed to make birdie and I went out and made birdie Conners three-putted from 35 feet from the back collar. I didnt know about the scores and I wasnt sure if his would be counting or not, Conners said. There was never a doubt that he was going to make it. It was a pretty nice looking putt. Spains Jon Rahm broke Jack Nicklaus individual record, closing with a 5-under 67 on Karuizawa 72 Golf Easts Iriyama Course for a 23-under 263 total. Nicklaus finished at 269 in 1960 at Merion in Pennsylvania. Im about ready to cry right now because, honestly, Jack Nicklaus is a hero, said Rahm, a junior at Arizona State. I cant really explain how good it feels to beat his record. Its just unbelievable. DeChambeau, from Clovis, California, had a 73 in the final group, and Virginia senior Denny McCarthy added a 64 to give the United States a record 38-under 534 total. Texas sophomore Beau Hossler shot 75, with only the top two scores counting in the team total. It was very exciting right down to the last putt, U.S. captain Jim Hyler said. Im so thrilled for these three young men. They played really hard all four days. We had different people count each day and it is a team event and I think the way itt worked out for us really highlights what a great team event it is.dddddddddddd The U.S. broke the record of 554 set by the Netherlands in 2006 in South Africa. Theres personal achievements that weve all had but its in a different league to play for your country and represent your country well, said Hossler, from Mission Viejo, California. Were very proud of what weve done this week. Denny and Bryson played incredibly these last two days and for me to reap the benefits of that is nice. I struggled today. On Friday, DeChambeau had a tournament-record 10-under 61 on the Oshitate Course to help the Americans take a three-stroke lead into the final round. Canada, six shots back entering the day, tied for the lead with a two-stroke swing on 18 in the third-to-last group. Barry Universitys Adam Svensson made a birdie for Canada, and McCarthy had a bogey for the U.S. McCarthy played the first eight holes in 8 under with an eagle, six birdies and a par. He broke the tournament nine-hole record at 8-under 28. I knew my score was counting for sure so my game plan on the back nine was to not do anything stupid or crazy and not drop any shots, said McCarthy, from Rockville, Maryland. At the same time, I still needed to be aggressive and give myself chances because he (Svensson) was making birdies and I knew he was going to count for Canada. Svensson finished with a 65. Conners, the U.S. Amateur runner-up, added a 68, and former Kent State teammate Taylor Pendrith had a 70. We fought back really hard, Canadian captain Graham Hill said. We knew that we were going to have to play well to have a chance and we played great and brought it right to the last hole. Obviously, it didnt work out the way that we wanted, but were really proud of the guys for the way they played and the way they handled themselves. Spain was third at 35 under. JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Denver Broncos coach John Fox says placekicker Matt Prater will be fine for the Super Bowl. Prater missed practice all week with the flu and the Broncos kept him away from the rest of the team so he didnt get everyone else sick. He was on the team plane that landed in New Jersey earlier Sunday and Fox says Prater was feeling better. Fox even joked that the Broncos "put him in a bubble" on the airplane. Prater, a Pro Bowler this season, was a big part of Denvers record-setting 606-point regular season, converting 25 of 26 field goals and all 75 PATs. Fraziers leadoff homer lifted Cincinnati to a 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night after the Reds bullpen blew a three-run lead. Fraziers team-leading 16th home run to centre field came off closer Jason Grilli (0-2) and gave the Reds their fifth win in six games. Cincinnati (34-35) also got within one game of .500 on its ninth try. "You cant fall behind the first guy you face, especially in a tie ballgame," Grilli said. "He dives over the plate. ... It just didnt work out." Frazier leads NL third basemen in homers, extra-base hits (31) and slugging percentage (.524). "Hes very confident now that he can be a major league player," Cincinnati manager Bryan Price said of Frazier, who is in his fourth season. "Hes been able to put home runs, RBIs, run production into one package." Billy Hamilton had three hits and two stolen bases for the Reds, while Joey Votto had two hits and three RBIs. Frazier, Brandon Phillips and Ryan Ludwick added two hits apiece. Hamilton is 8 for 13 in his last three games. Cincinnati is 5-2 and averaging 5.3 runs per game since Votto was activated from the disabled list after missing three weeks with a quadriceps strain. Logan Ondrusek (2-2) got four outs for the win. Aroldis Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth for his 12th save, getting Clint Barmes to fly out to the left-field fence with two runners on to end the game. "It was an interesting game in a lot of ways," Price said. "Both teams had their moments and we had to have some good things happen to win the game. It would have been nice if it were a little easier on the stomach." Prices stomach was certainly churning when left fielder Chris& Heisey, a late-inning defensive replacement for Ludwick, had to race to the fence to catch Barmes drive.dddddddddddd "It carried farther than I thought," Heisey said. "Fortunately, it stayed in the park." Josh Harrison matched a career high with four hits for the Pirates. He drove in two runs. Starling Marte, Ike Davis and Jordy Mercer added two hits apiece. Andrew McCutchen extended his hitting streak to 12 games but came up short of becoming the first Pittsburgh player to have multiple hits in nine straight games since Rennie Stennett in 1971. Gregory Polanco became the first Pirates player to have a hit in each of the first seven games of his career since Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente in 1955. The Pirates used a three-run seventh inning to tie the score at 5 on RBI singles by Davis, Russell Martin and Harrison. Cincinnati starter Johnny Cuetos hard luck continued as he gave up two runs in six innings of a no-decision. Cueto scattered seven hits and four walks, but the bullpen failed to hold a three-run lead for him. Despite a sparkling 1.92 ERA, Cueto is 6-5 through 15 starts. In two starts against the Pirates in April, he allowed one run and six hits in 18 innings. Pittsburghs Brandon Cumpton gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings after winning his previous two starts. NOTES: Pittsburgh 2B Neil Walker took batting practice and fielded grounders before the game for the first time since undergoing an appendectomy June 9. He is optimistic he will be ready to be activated from the disabled list June 24, the first day he is eligible. ... Pirates LHP Francisco Liriano is scheduled to play catch Thursday for the first time since sustaining a strained left oblique June 10 and going on the DL. ... Phillips string of 43 consecutive plate appearances without a strikeout, the longest active streak in the majors, ended when he fanned in the seventh. ... Raymond van Barneveld became the latest big name to tumble out of the World Matchplay after Brendan Dolan pulled off a shock 10-7 win. The Dutch legend was never able to break, missing four darts to win a leg against the throw, and paid a heavy price with a first-round exit in Blackpool, following James Wade out of the tournament.Dolan, No 21 on the PDCs order of merit, earned the biggest win of his year after failing to progress beyond the last 16 of any singles competition so far. BARCELONA, Spain -- The president of Spanish champion Barcelona resigned on Thursday to fight criminal accusations he misappropriated funds from the signing of Brazil forward Neymar. Sandro Rosell is facing a lengthy legal battle after a judge in Madrid ruled on Wednesday he will hear a lawsuit that alleges the real cost of Neymars transfer from Santos last year was hidden. "I dont want unfair attacks to negatively affect (the) management or the image of the club. This is why I think my time here has come to an end," Rosell said, while insisting for a second time this week that the deal to bring Neymar to Barcelona was legal. Neymar, who is the poster boy of Brazils team going into the World Cup on home soil in June, joined for 57 million euros (then $74 million) in June, according to Rosell. The legal action, which was brought by club member Jordi Cases, alleges the real cost of Neymars transfer was closer to 95 million euros ($129 million) and that false contracts hid the real value of the move. The criminal offence of misappropriation of funds is punishable by up to six years in prison. The 49-year-old Rosell, a former Nike executive, said confidentiality agreements prevented Barcelona from revealing the exact amount received by Santos, and the three companies -- DIS, TEISA and N&N -- who owned shares of his rights. The lawsuit does not accuse Rosell of taking money from the deal. The case prompted Barcelonas board to call an emergency meeting, and Rosell announced he was quitting after more than two hours of deliberations. The transfer controversy is a blot on the reputation of a Catalan football institution that has long prided itself on being "more than a club" and is owned by its more than 160,000 members, who elect a president and executive board. And Barcelona, while top of the Spanish league, enters a period of uncertainty as it seeks to retain its domestic title and win the Champions League for the first time since 2011. Rosell, who was elected in 2010, said vice-president Josep Bartomeu will take his place and complete the presidential term that expires in 2016. Under three full seasons of Rosells presidency, Barcelona maintained its winning run started under Joan Laporta with another two Spanish league trophies to go with the Champions League title in 2011 and the Copa del Rey in 2012. Rosell said he was leaving to reduce the stress on him and his family and lamented what he described as attacks from both outside and within the club, despite its continued success on the pitch. "Through this period of success, my family and I have suffered attacks that have made me wonder if being president means putting my family at risk and in anguish," Rosell said. As he resigned, Rosell trumpeted his role in ensuring "the best players in the world wear the Barcelona jersey." Rosell oversaw the signing of Neymar, Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez, Javier Mascherano, Jordi Alba, and Alex Song to further strengthen a team built around star forward Lionel Messi. Messi himself is going through his own legal difficulties. The Argentina forward and his father, Jorge, are waiting to hear if they will face charges in a tax fraud case after answering a judges questions last year about allegations they avoided 4 million euros ($5.3 million) in back taxes. Rosell steered Barcelona through uncertainty last season when treatment for throat cancer kept coach Tito Vilanova away for several months. Vilanova had to step down at the end of last season through ill health and Gerardo Martino was brought in to take charge. But while helping to establish Barcelona as Europes most successful team, Rosell also upset some members by putting paying sponsors on the front of Barcas shirts for the first time by striking deals with Qatar Foundation and Qatar Airways. Rosell has faced accusations about his business dealings away from the Camp Nou, with accusations in Brazil he illegally benefited from a friendly organized by his marketing company in 2008. By leaving his powerful job at Barcelona, Rosell also loses seats on influential committees within world football on FIFA and UEFA. Watch the Leafs vs. Avalanche live on TSN4 at 9pm et. The Maple Leafs also hope to rebound tonight after losing a 3-2 decision to Arizona on Tuesday. That snapped a three-game winning streak for Toronto and was the clubs first regulation road loss of the season (3-1-1). James Reimer made his second straight start in net, ending with 30 saves. However, he was beaten for a pair of goals in the first period and Toronto trailed by three before getting power-play tallies from Dion Phaneuf and Cody Franson. Terrible start and we just werent able to overcome it, said Toronto head coach Randy Carlyle. It seemed like we were in neutral and they were in third gear. Phil Kessel assisted on both goals, giving him a pair of tallies and six assists over a four-game point streak. He is tied for third in the NHL with 16 points. Bernier has faced the Avalanche just once before as a starter while also making a relief appearance against them. The Maple Leafs picked up their second straight win over the Avalanche with a 3-2 overtime victory at home on Oct. 14. Kessel scored the winner 34 seconds into the extra frame and Reimer finished with 22 saves. Toronto has won three straight in Colorado. Varlamov stopped 37 shots for the Avs in the teams 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks Tuesday night. Stunned in the third period last time out, the Colorado Avalanche hope to rebound on Thursday night and avoid a fourth straight setback as they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to Pepsi Center. The Avs hosted the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday and went up 2-0 on first- period goals by John Mitchell and Jamie McGinn, but the Canucks responded with five straight tallies, including four in the thhird period to hand Colorado a 5-2 loss.dddddddddddd Semyon Varlamov stopped the first 26 shots he faced, but ended up with 32 saves while allowing all five Vancouver goals. The loss dropped Colorado to 0-2-1 in its past three games and 3-6-5 on the season. I mean third period we are up a goal and end up losing 5-2. Its unacceptable to say the least, Mitchell said. We have to be better, we have to find a way. They come out and score a goal early, its 2-2. We cant come out and completely fall apart, you know, shut it down. We have to learn to respond and come out and play hard after that. We just didnt do anything and we certainly didnt help Varly. Colorado also lost defenseman Brad Stuart to a hamstring injury in the game and the ailment could sideline him for the next few weeks. Head coach Patrick Roy has opted to rest Varlamov tonight and will give Reto Berra his fourth straight of the campaign and first since Oct. 21. Berra has never before faced Toronto. In the pantheon of brutally difficult things to accomplish in the National Hockey League, succeeding as a 21-or-under defenceman ranks near the top. It takes a unique combination of talent and early physical development to even bring a guy into NHL consideration at such a young age, and only a portion of this small-group can hold down regular shifts without getting killed against the world’s toughest competition. And, it’s worth remembering that a huge majority of 21-or-under players are not NHL-regulars – the junior leagues, international leagues, and American Hockey League are filled with guys still rounding out their game. There are myriad reasons why making a super-early jump as a defenceman is tougher than as a forward, but two of the big ones include expectations and exposure. Expectations at the position are tied into shot and goal suppression, and slowing down some of the world’s best players from scoring is a tall task. Exposure also makes things tricky – it’s a bit easier to insulate a young forward with at least one quality linemate, or hide the player on a third or fourth line in limited minutes. On defence, since only six defencemen play, it’s harder to hide a guy by sheer limitation of ice-time. You can run out a quality partner with the young defender, but doing so ensures that they’ll play a fair amount each game. No third-pairing minutes here. Naturally, I’m always intrigued to see how coaches bring along these players, because it varies from team to team. Believe it or not, there are only 11 regular 21-or-under defenders this season. Success has been variable. First, let’s take a quick look as to how these skaters have been deployed based on teammate quality and competition quality. For the sake of this graph and this graph only, I have omitted both Nikita Zadorov and Rasmus Ristolainen. As is always the case this season, the Sabres – by virtue of being a historically awful hockey team – distort data visualization. Just know that both players frequently play with terrible teammates and against difficult competition, and would sit far east of Morgan Rielly in the graph below. The dotted line gives us a nice first look at what the players are generally seeing on a day-to-day basis. The three names to the left (Rielly, Ceci, and Murphy) of the dotted line generally see more oppressive competition, somewhat due to the fact that they play on average or subpar teams. Severson splits the middle. On the other side, you can see that Aaron Ekblad, Dougie Hamilton, and Seth Jones are being supported by virtue of their common linemates being of higher quality than their opposition. Quality of Teammate and Quality of Competition isn’t the only way to look at how a player is being used, though. We can also look at how frequently a player starts in the offensive zone as another way to capture whether or not a playing is being insulated in his deployment. Here, we can look at Relative Offensive Zone Start% -- players above 0.0% start more shifts in the offensive zone relative to the team norm, players below 0.0% start less shifts in the offensive zone relative to the team norm. We know from the first graph that Morgan Rielly, Connor Murphy, and Cody Ceci were seeing significantly tougher competition than teammate quality. Here, only Cody Ceci sees tough deployment as it pertains to offensive zone start numbers – he sees fewer shifts than the regular Ottawa Senator in terms of starting in the offensive zone; Morgan Rielly and Connor Murphy, on the other hand, see more shifts than the regular player from their respective teams. The two other names that pop from this table are Damon Severson (brutal zone starts) and Aaron Ekblad (lofty zone starts). At this point, we can start to draw conclusions about a handful of players, and use it to craft future analysis: Damon Severson, Cody Ceci, are in pretty tough spots for young defenders, and Morgan Rielly – by virtue of team effects – isn’t far behind. Aaron Ekblad and Seth Jones are well protected. Both Buffalo Sabres guys are getting killed by their team, but Rasmus Ristolainen sees much more difficult deployment than Nikita Zadorov. Through this, we can contextualize to some degree the performance of each player by their raw Corsi% numbers. For each of the eleven skaters, I pulled each team’s Corsi% with the player on the ice, and each team’s Corsi% with the player off of the ice. We know Seth Jones and Aaron Ekblad are being put in positions to really succeed, so we expect the team to have a better Corsi% with them on the ice than off. For both players here, that’s true, though the data seems to suggest Seth Jones is having a more favourable impact than Aaron Ekblad in fairly comparable minutes. This graph is the most damning for Connor Murphy. Recall that Murphy has been given plenty of offensive zone starts, and he isn’t experiencing the kind of competition/teammate disparity that the two Sabres’ skaters, Morgan Rielly, and Cody Ceci are. Despite that, the Arizona Coyotes are significantly better with him off of the ice. Who is the player with the most encouraging underlying numbers? Damon Severson. Severson’s numbers and deployment are somewhat to comparable to that of Cody Ceci and Morgan Rielly, but both of those players had significant NHL-experience last season. Severson’s a full-blown rookie. For that reason, New Jersey should be thrilled about what they have found in their 2012 second-round pick. Wholesale Cleveland Browns Jerseys . New York Red Bulls. Benitezs side fell behind to Jermain Defoes first-half strike, but stole a point late on through Aleksandar Mitrovics header. We didnt play the level we could in the first half but we were much better in the second, Benitez told Sky Sports. It was a good reaction, with the position we are in the table to come back and get the point was a credit to the players. Rafael Benitezs Newcastle drew 1-1 with Sunderland We knew they are a strong team physically and we knew it would be free-kicks, corners and second balls. We tried to play and keep it on the floor and we did it much better second half. The result leaves Newcastle in the relegation zone, three points adrift of safety, but Benitez is still confident of survival with eight games to go - especially if they can keep the fans behind them. The positive thing for me is we are still there with eight games to play, said Benitez. Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Devontae Booker ran for a career-high 229 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning 19-yard score in the second overtime to lift No. 20 Utah to a 29-23 win over Oregon State. The teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime, but Trevor Romaine missed wide-right on a 37-yard field goal in the second OT session before Booker darted through the right side of the line to help the Utes (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) prevail. Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson split time at quarterback. Wilson was 5- of-10 for 45 yards, while Thompson finished 4-of-8 for 17 yards for Utah, which won its second straight game following its 28-27 loss to Washington State. Sean Mannion completed 21-of-37 passes for 272 yards with two touchdowns and an interception and Jordan Villamin had three receptions for 83 yards and two scores for the Beavers (4-2, 1-2), who have dropped two of their last three games. Utah led 9-6 early in the fourth before Mannion lofted a perfect pass to Villamin in stride along the left sideline to beat double coverage for a 72-yard score and a 13-9 Beavers advantage. The Utes were 0-for-10 on third down prior to Booker breaking off a 53-yard run through the middle of the Oregon State defense on a 3rd-and-2, setting up a 1st-and-goal from the 6. Booker plunged in from a yard out on 4th-and-goal to give Utah a 16-13 edge with 4:06 to play. Terron Ward picked up nine yards out of the backfield on a 3rd-and-7 and Hunter Jarmon hauled in a deflected pass for a gain of 20 to put Oregon State into field-goal range on its next possession. Viliseni Fauonuku sacked Mannion for a loss of six on a 3rd-and-5 to push the ensuing game-tying attempt to a 49-yard try, but Romaine split the uprights anyway to send the game into overtime. Booker broke off a 15-yard TD run off right tackle on Utahs first overtime possession, but Villamin hauled in a jump ball in the back-left corner of the end zone on a 3rd-and-goal from the 2 to force the game into a second extra session. Earlier, Andy Phillips made a 38-yard field goal early in the first and added a 43-yarder later in the frame to stake Utah to a 6-0 advantage. Romaine kicked field goals of 37 and 45 yards in the second, with the latter coming on the final play of the half to tie the game at 6-6. Phillips split the uprights from 46 yards out early in the third to give Utah its 9-6 lead. Game Notes Utah finished 3-of-14 on third down, while Oregon State was 4-of-17 ... A blend of starters and bench players fueled a 7-0 run to close out the half that gave the Buckeyes a 10-point lead. After the lead had swelled, Nebraska (8-6, 0-2) failed to hit a field goal over the last 8 minutes. Della Valle, a native of Italy, helped turn the tide in the final 100 seconds of the first half with a tip-in. He also made plays that led to turnovers as the Buckeyes pulled away. Shavon Shields slashed across the lane and tossed up a shot that cut Ohio States lead to 33-30 with 2:29 remaining. But the Buckeyes defence turned up the pressure. Aaron Craft got things going with a 3 from the right wing at the 1:17 mark -- his first made 3-pointer inn four games -- before Scotts deflection and steal led to Della Valle tipping in Scotts missed layup.dddddddddddd Ohio State blocked Nebraskas final two shots of the half -- both by David Rivers -- with Trey McDonald batting away the first and Sam Thompson the second. Thompson was then fouled with 2.7 seconds left and hit both free throws to make it 40-30. "I think it was huge going into the half knowing we had a 10-point lead, especially playing the last 4 minutes with that energy compared to the first 4 or 5 minutes (of the game) when we didnt have that energy," he said. "And that led to a great start of the second half." The Buckeyes, leading the Big Ten in scoring defence at 55.1 points a game, limited the Cornhuskers to 38 per cent shooting from the field (21 of 56) while forcing 17 turnovers. Terran Petteway scored 15 points and Leslee Smith had 11 for the Cornhuskers, who have lost 20 consecutive road games to ranked teams since beating No. 22 Texas A&M on Feb. 23, 2008. "I thought Ohio State came out with better pace on offence in the second half," Nebraska coach Tim Miles said. "(Ross) made the consecutive 3s. When we let them go 9 for 19 from 3, youve got a problem on your hands with Ohio State." It was a last tuneup before the biggest test of the season for the Buckeyes, at No. 5 Michigan State on Tuesday night. "Collectively we have a very good mindset going into our next game," Loving said. "Michigan States a very tough team." Matta said he was pleased that the Buckeyes had opened with two victories in the Big Ten to add lustre to the showdown. They won 78-69 before a loud, hostile crowd at Purdue on Tuesday. "Most importantly, we took care of what we needed to do," Matta said. "Tuesdays environment over there in West Lafayette was probably very, very similar to what were going to see on Tuesday night (at Michigan State). Our guys have a great appreciation for how good Michigan State is. Weve got a couple of days here where we have to get ourselves ready." San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dodgers werent finished on Wednesday after overhauling their middle infield at the Winter Meetings. According to multiple reports, veteran pitcher Brandon McCarthy will sign a four-year, $48 million deal with Los Angeles, bolstering an already strong starting rotation. The move comes after the Dodgers acquired shortstop Jimmy Rollins and second baseman Howie Kendrick in separate deals. McCarthy, 31, is coming off the first 200-inning season of his career. After posting a 3-10 record with a 5.01 ERA in 18 starts with Arizona, he was traded in early July to the New York Yankees, where he pitched much better with a superior defense behind him. In 14 starts with the Yankees, he improved his ERA to 2.89 and won seven games. His 5.30 K/BB ratio was ninth among all major league starters. In nine seasons split between the White Sox, Rangers, Athletics, Diamondbacks and Yankees, McCarthy owns a 52-65 record and 4.09 ERA in 989 1/3 career innings. Custom Houston Astros Jerseys . Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Thaddeus Young scored 22 points, and he hit the go-ahead free throw with 2.8 seconds remaining to boost the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 120-119 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in a battle between the teams with the worst records in the Western Conference. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 26 points, but he had a pair of costly free- throw misses, and his potential game-winning 3-pointer clanked off the rim and backboard as time expired. Lack of focus. Its as simple as that, Lakers coach Byron Scott said. We looked at them like they were inferior to us. We made some bonehead plays on both ends of the floor. Zach LaVine netted a career-best 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting, and Mo Williams scored 25 to go with 11 assists for the Timberwolves, who snapped a three-game skid and moved to 4-10 on the season. You can go right down the line, we had a lot of offense, Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders said. We had 37 assists, which means we moved the ball. Even though were undermanned, we fought to the last second. Wesley Johnson scored 19 and Jeremy Lin contributed 18 points and 11 assists for the Lakers, who blew an eight-point lead with five minutes remaining and lost their fourth in a row to fall to 3-13. Nick Youngs reverse jam gave LA a 115-107 lead with 5:03 left, but the Timberwolves eventually moved to a 119-117 lead on Thaddeus Youngs turnaround bank hook shot with a minute to go. That go-ahead shot came 15 seconds after Bryant missed a pair of foul shots. Johnson then missed a potential 3-point shot, but Williams couldnt get a short jumper to fall at the other end. Bryant pump-faked before sinking a jumper from the right side of the lane with 5.6 seconds left to tie the game at 119. Thaddeus Young then drove to the basket before being fouled by Nick Young. The second free-throw was made, and the Lakers attempt to win the game went awry when Bryant popped free for an open look from the top of the key, but the 3- point attempt hit off the rim and backboard. Williams scored 11 in the opening quarter, but Bryant countered with 12 to give his team a 30-23 edge after 12 minutes. LaVine went 7-of-8 from the field for 18 points in the second, but LA was in front, 58-54, at the half. The hosts were ahead, 96-93, going to the fourth. Game Notes The Timberwolves, who had lost 14 of their previous 15 to the Lakers at Staples Center, shot 57 percent from the field ... Corey Brewer had 13 points and eight assists for Minnesota ... In the days leading up to the draft, TSN.ca and TSN Radio basketball analyst Duane Watson looks at some of the names that will be headlining the event. Watch the 2014 NBA Draft on TSN, Thursday at 7pm et/4pm pt. Name: Dwight PowellFrom: Toronto, OntarioPlayed: Stanford UniversityHeight: 611Weight: 235 Position: Power Forward2013-2014 Stats: 14 points per game, 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists Breakout Game: 22 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists in win vs. California Feb 5th.Accolades: 2013-14 All Pac-12 First Team, Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.Draft Projection: Mid-late second round. Dwight Powell isnt supposed to be here. Stanford yielded a handful of NBA pros and hadnt been to the NCAA Tournament since 2008 - not the standard route to becoming an NBA Draft prospect. Last year, after a standout junior season, he earned himself a spot on the All Pac-10 First Team. Powell averaged 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds making an NBA career a legitimate possibility. Usually a promise from a team committing to select them makes a player leave college early. In this case, Powell made a promise to his mother, who was ailing from cancer to finish school, get his degree and compete in the NCAA tournamment for the first time.dddddddddddd Jacqueline Weir passed in 2012 and while its no secret Powell led the Cardinals to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tournament in March, what got him there and what tools will he need to excel at the next level? Powell is a forward who can face up on the floor whether to make a move to create his own shot or facilitate for others, as hes a more than capable passer for his size/position. While he will need to bulk up for the NBA game, his length (7 wingspan) and mobility are assets. Powell posses a strong basketball IQ, and while his motor isnt in question, an on court intensity would be welcomed. He will need to develop more consistency in a number of areas, particularly with his jump shot and adding range. With more potential than project, Powell has a skill set to contribute to an NBA team and enough talent and physical gifts to build upon. While many were expecting significant jumps from his on court performance from his junior to senior years, the growth in character and leadership cannot be overlooked either. Powell competed for the national program as a key member of Canadas Mens Developmental basketball team that traveled overseas tallying a 15-2 record last summer. Powell kept his word to his mother, now he just has to show enough promise to warrant an NBA team realizing he has enough of it, to select him. CHICAGO -- Josh Thomson is hoping Benson Henderson has his sights on another title fight against Anthony Pettis. The veteran fighter will be squaring off with Henderson in a five-round lightweight bout as part of another network televised card at the United Center on Saturday night. Henderson (19-3), the former UFC lightweight champion, gave up the title after being submitted by Pettis armbar at UFC 164. Henderson had a seven-fight winning streak going into the fight against Pettis which was the second longest in UFC lightweight history. Hendersons two of the three losses came against Pettis. Henderson is aiming at a third fight against his rival with the belt on the line this summer if he can beat Thomson (20-5) on Saturday. Thomson appears to be just another fighter in Hendersons path to get to Pettis. "He (Pettis) can stay injured for a year, stay hurt til July, two years, whatever. Every guy UFC would give a title shot to, send them my way. Ill go down the entire list of the top 10. I will beat everybody. Lets do that. When he is healthy, when he does come back then Ill be waiting," said Henderson. Thomson isnt expecting to be overlooked, who will be giving up 5 years in age to the 30-year old. "No, I dont think he does. I think he is a confident person. He was just the champion for the last two years. He would be a fool to underestimate me, which would be fine with me if he did," said Thomson Thomson was supposed to get the first shot at Pettis on Dec. 14 but Pettis tore his PCL while training for the fight. Henderson believes Thomson is looking for any motivation he can get for Saturdays fight. "I would say probably. Hes probably reached on that aspect. I know there are no easy fights in the UFC. He knows there are no easy fights in the UFC. If he chooses to think that, cool, no worries. Whatever you need to do to get yourself amped up, excited and ready to go, people do different things," said Henderson. Thomson is coming off an impressive victory against Nate Diaz on April 20, 2013. He became the first fighter in Diazs 25-fight career to finish him with strikes, landing a head kick in the second round that initially got him the fight against Pettis. "Im 35, if I win the title thats great. If I dont win the title thats great, too. Ive had a great career. I was number one in the world back in 2003, 2004. I am ranked number four in the world now and its in a way bigger scale now," said Thomson. The card also features a three-round heavyweight fight featuring Stipe Miocic and Gabriel Gonzaga. Miocic (10-1) Miocic is coming off a dominating unanimous decision against Roy Nelson in UFC 161. He had one of the most dominating strike performances in UFC heavyweight history, landing 106 strikes to 23. Gonzaga (16-7), has finished all his victories, nine by knockout and seven by submission. He has only gone the distance once as a pro. Donald Cerrone (21-6) is back in Chicago, a year after getting knocked out by Pettis in a lightweight fight. He will be fighting Adriano Martins from Brazil. Martins (25-6) won his only fight in the UFC. He beat Daron Cruickshank on Nov. 9, 2013. Steve Nash Jersey . Hoyer is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery on Friday, and Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said he hopes the QB will be able to return for practice next spring. Hoyer had his torn right anterior cruciate ligament repaired at the Cleveland Clinic. The 28-year-old sustained the season-ending injury on Oct. 3 against Buffalo in the first quarter of his third start. It was a devastating blow to the Cleveland native who had led his hometown Browns to two straight wins while replacing injured starter Brandon Weeden. "Were hopeful in the spring that well see him," Chudzinski said following practice as the Browns got ready for Sundays game in Green Bay. "From my understanding, everything went well with the surgery. Just knowing him, from a rehab standpoint, I know hes going to do everything he can to get ready." Its been quite a few days for Hoyer. In addition to the operation, he celebrated a birthday and he and his wife, Lauren, welcomed their second child, a daughter named Cameron. Hoyers storybook start to the season ended when he got hurt on an awkward slide at the end of an 11-yard scramble against the Bills. Hoyers right cleat got caught underneath him as he slid, and he was hit as he hit the turf from the side by Bills rookie linebacker Kiko Alonso. Before he was injured, Hoyer had energized the Browns, who had their three-game winning streak stopped Sunday by Detroit. Hoyer, who spent three seasons as Tom Bradys backup in New England and had been cut by three teams in 11 months, took over for Weeden and guided the Browns to wins over Minnesota and Cincinnati. He threw go-ahead touchdown passes in the fourth quarter of both games. "He did a great job coming in and gave us a rreal spark," Chudzinski said.dddddddddddd "He played very well. You saw improvement every game that he played, and he was able to make plays for us and really help us in that stretch to get us going." Hoyers performance may not prevent the Browns from drafting a quarterback in next years draft, but it did show that he can be an option in the event they need a QB or if Weeden continues to struggle. The Browns made some other roster moves on Friday, placing rookie defensive back Josh Aubrey on injured reserve and waiving running back Bobby Rainey. Chudzinski said Aubrey sprained his knee and ankle in practice Thursday. He appeared in six games this season on special teams. In the win over the Vikings, Aubrey ran for 34 yards on a faked punt, a key play in Clevelands win. Also, the club promoted wide receiver Tori Gurley and cornerback Julian Posey from their practice squad to the active roster. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Gurley played in the Browns first two games and made one catch for 15 yards. ---- NOTES: RB Willis McGahee practiced after sitting out Thursday to rest his surgically repaired knees. McGahee said "all systems go" for Sunday and hes listed as probable on the injury report. ... OLB Jabaal Sheard said hes eager to return this week after missing three games with a sprained left knee. ... Chudzinski said Weeden had an excellent week of practice as he tried to shake off an inexcusable interception last week in a loss to Detroit. "I thought hes had his best couple of days of practice here: very focused and receptive to the coaching," Chudzinski said. "You can see him doing things, specifically working to improve in areas that were talking about where he needs to improve. I am expecting him and I have confidence in him, like the team does, to go out and play his very best." Representatives from each of the five teams most likely to win the Draft Lottery will be joined by NHL on TSN host James Duthie in the TSN Studio as NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly reveals the draft order. The club selected in the lottery will be awarded the first overall pick for the 2014 NHL Draft, which takes place on TSN on June 27-28 in Philadelphia. The top-seeded Buffalo Sabres (25.0 per cent) have the best chance of winning the lottery, followed by the Florida Panthers (18.8 per cent), Edmonton Oilers (14.2 per cent), Calgary Flames (10.7 per cent) and New York Islanders (8.1 per cent). The Vancouver Canucks (6.2 per cent), Toronto Maple Leafs (3.6 per cent), and Winnipeg Jets (2.7 per cent) complete the group of five Canadian teams with a chance to choose first overall. The Ottawa Senators first-round pick is property of the Anaheim Ducks, who acquired it in a trade for Bobby Ryan. The Devils will receive the 30th overall pick regardless of their final standing as penalty for cap circumvention in signing Ilya Kovalchuk. The Devils will still be included in the lottery drawing with the same odds that would have normally been assigned to the club. In the event the Devils win the lottery, a re-draw will be conducted to select a different recipient of the first overall selection in the first round. The New York Islanders may not have a first-round pick, as they must surrender either their 2014 or 2015 first-round draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres as part of the trade that sent Thomas Vanek to New York. TURIN, N.Y. -- Kevin Ward Jr.s friends, family and fellow racing enthusiasts overflowed a high school auditorium Thursday to grieve and share stories about the 20-year-old dirt-track racer whose car was hit by one driven by NASCAR champion Tony Stewart. With Ward lying in an open casket decorated with racing flags and piled with orange flowers, his familys team colours, mourners shed tears and laughed at favourite stories about the boy who began racing when he was barely more than a toddler. The 90-minute service was held at the South Lewis Senior High School auditorium to accommodate crowds of people from the close-knit central New York racing community. "Even if he had rough day, he always had a smile," a tearful Dylan Swiernick said of his best friend and car-obsessed buddy. "We were just two small-town boys trying to make it in the big world. He was always working on something. It was unbelievable how smart he was. He never got down on himself when things werent going his way." Ward, a 2012 South Lewis graduate, was buried in his nearby hometown of Port Leyden, 55 miles from Syracuse. "He was an amazing sprint car driver and had a family like no other," his cousin, Amanda Ward, said in a eulogy. "We used to tell him before every race, Drive it like you stole it. He never let us down." His sister, Kayla Herring, said the orange and white lapel ribbons worn by family and friends were to signify that the team colours would remain bright, even in the darkest times. There was barely a dry eye in the auditorium as a recording of the Dixie Chicks singing "Godspeed, little man, sweet dreams, little man," was played at the request of Wards mother.dddddddddddd After the service, as Wards casket was taken to the hearse for the short trip to the cemetery, mourners let loose helium balloons in orange, white and black. Ward died Saturday night at a track 140 miles away in Canandaigua, where Stewart was riding a day before the Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen. The accident touched off debates as video of the crash circulated online, with fans questioning whether Stewart, known for his hot temper, tried to send his own message by buzzing Ward, or whether Ward recklessly stepped onto a dark track clad in black. Stewart was racing a day before the Sprint Cup event at Watkins Glen. After a bump from Stewart sent Wards winged car spinning into the wall, the young driver climbed out and walked onto the track in his black firesuit, gesturing angrily. Stewarts No. 14 car seemed to fishtail, and Ward was thrown through the air as his parents and fans watched in horror. No charges have been filed, but Ontario County Sheriffs deputies are still investigating. Ward grew up in a racing family and started racing go-carts at age 4. He moved on to sprint cars and was Empire Super Sprint racing rookie of the year in 2012. He was one of a small, tight group of drivers that travelled to various races around New York state, parts of Canada and Pennsylvania. Racing and working on cars in his fathers shop, Westward Painting Co. of Lyons Falls, were his "double love," Wards father told the Post-Standard of Syracuse this week. "His goal was ... the World of Outlaws," the top level for sprint cars, Ward said.
